Jenny Brandis' Handcrafts
April 2006 Lace
It has been just over a year now since I started learning how to make Torchon bobbin lace.
I can now use most of the basic stitches but have a long way to go before I am competent at making Torchon Lace.
The meandering path I made in February made me realise that I needed to practice my joinings so this last month I have been doing just that. Using the same pricking I made four variations with stitches - can't let myself get bored now can I?

I started with the white - which is done in half stitch ground, 4 legged spiders with a cloth stitch fan headside. You can see these knots from outerspace :(
Worked my way through the black/blue using half stitch ground, a cloth stitch diamond and the fan headside is in half stitch, note the blue gimp - my first gimp.
Then on to the blue where I used whole stitch ground, a cloth stitch diamond and the fan headside is done with whole stitch, and finally the dusty pink was done with half stitch ground, 4 legged spiders and the fan headside is in half stitch.
I am happy with the way I have improved the joining up, the use of 'magic loops' makes it easier for me - as long as I remember to install them when I start.
I used linen thread for the first time this month and am most impressed with the way that it holds its shape. I can see why it is not used on underwear but can really see it in the use of household linens. Linen length

I made my prickings on Lace 2000 so have included the files here for you to see.
