The tatting (I am just learning to do it 'properly', having taught myself years ago, and at last got some professional tuition) was done with crochet cotton no. 50 and the patterns are from Patti Duff's Minitats book. The bobbin lace is done with Tanne 30 and Gutermann metallic, and is a Christine Springett pattern

The pattern was purchased in England in the 1980's when I was just starting to make lace, and I have long since lost the designer's name The thread used was linen size 120.
Since I had 3 partners, I decided to use the theme of the tale "The Three Trees". It is a story of three Christmas trees who have great dreams of their futures. They dream of being made into a treasure chest, a great ship and being left in the forest to grow tall and be close to God. Instead, they become the manger, a fishing boat, and the cross.
Each tree was made with the same pattern, but I played around with the ground stitches. I was surprised to see how much the trees were affected by the different grounds! Here they are photographed together, but I will be sending one to each of my exchange partners
